Beautiful Applique Quilt

Merri Garton has made this gorgeous applique quilt.  The pattern is out of the book by Fons and Porter, 'Quilts from the Henry Ford Museum'.  The original picture in the book doesn't have a border so Merri designed one herself and compliments the centre beautifully.  Merri is very bold in her choices of background fabric and this almost mint green colour is a lovely choice.  I did tell Merri that it fits perfectly in my bedroom and if she didn't want to collect her quilt, I wouldn't mind. ;-)
I have quilted the centre of the quilt with a little crosshatching and feathers stretching out from the centre.  All of the feathersand applique have then been echoed slightly, I feel this helps to enhance the applique.  The border is quilted with freeform leaves and berries and I have repeated the berry design behind the central applique sections.  The applique pieces are very large, so in co-ordinated threads I have sewn different designs into all of the flowers, leaves and flowerbuds.  This quilt is Huge and a testament to Merri's patience and obvious ability.

Strawberry Summer

This beautiful quilt was made by Debra Welsh.  The pattern is 'Strawberry Summer' by Blackbird Designs.  Debra attended a workshop in Warnambool with the designers and has fallen in love with the freedom of their designs.  She has also used the fabrics that the Blackbird girls designed a range called 'Nell's Flower Shop'.
I have outlined all of the applique on this quilt and used very freeform heart pattern in both the strawberry flowers and the hearts in colour co-ordinated threads.  The pieced blocks have a feather wreath in the their centre with a large circular pattern in the corners, this circular pattern has then been repeated behind the applique blocks.

Bright dresden plate

Linda Berry has made this beautiful Dresden Plate quilt.  Linda loves a big quilt and she has hand sewn all of the plates beautifully.   I quilted the plates with a pebble pattern in the orange centre and an echo in the 'petals'  so they resembled large flowers.  The background pattern was a swirl pattern and in the final feather border the same curls were incorperated.(apologies, the photo of the border isn't too clear.)  I loved quilting this quilt and it makes me feel happy every time I see it.
